ZANZIBARWINTER CAMP 2020
13.January – 2.February
DM kite-surfing school kindly invites all beginners and experienced kite-surfers to a winter camp in Zanzibar, South Africa. A beautiful, cozy island of Zanzibar provides great conditions for learning and practicing kite-surfing in wintertime, when most of the Europe is covered by a thick layer of snow and dull sky.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres off the coast of the mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba Island.
Our kite-surfing spot is located in the East coast of Zanzibar, Paje beach, which is known as a kite-surfing Mekka. Mild, warm weather, shallow water beaches and lagoons, combined with front line bungalows, create cozy and convenient settings for both learning and relaxing.

FLIGHT & TICKETS
There are no direct flights to Zanzibar from Copenhagen. Depending on which flight company one chooses, transfers could be at Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Amsterdam (KLM) or Doha (Catar Airlines). Flights usually take up to 22 hours, last transfer to the Zanzibar island to be accomplished in two possible ways: landing in Zanzibar (local flight from Nairobi, Kenya, approx. 1h 30min) or taking a speed ferry from Dar Es-Salaam (approx. 2 hours, from 35 to 50 €). It is advisory to book flights in good time before the planned trip to make sure one gets value for money. The most optimal flight deals are to be launched in August/September (500-600€). Further on prices gradually grow.
It is necessary to have international vaccination passport and valid vaccination stamp against yellow fever. Vaccination against typhus, hepatitis B and C etc. are recommended. It is also recommended to have pills against malaria. Consult your doctor for further information.
Kite-surfing is an extreme sport. Therefore, campers MUST HAVE a private travel AND sports insurance.
Zanzibar is not only a good spot for kite-surfers, but also a great place for family& friend vacation. Once wind or students’ energy is low, there are great tours to be taken around the island. Exploring local culture, spices, heavenly seafood dishes, visiting capital city and the “Prison island”, Freddie Mercury museum, Tanzanite jewelry shops (strictly recommended for girls), the Blue Lagoon and many more, not even mentioning water activities, such as snorkeling, diving, swimming with dolphins and turtles, one-day kite-surfing and snorkeling trips to Mnemba Atoll.
GOOD TO KNOW
Zanzibar is a “50-dollar” island. Since it is a semi-autonomous from Tanzania, it has a visa regime. Therefore, entering the island is charged with 50-dollar fee.
Taxi to almost any destination will also cost around 50 dollars (if not more). There is an option to use local open busses (called dale-dale). This would be an exotic long and not necessarily convenient trip after a long flight, but worth trying anyway. It should be noted, that transportation costs greatly depend on driver’s mood and your inexperience ☺. Therefore, for your convenience, we can arrange transportation from the airport to the final destination in Paje beach.
Please contact us in need of any further information or guidance.
Looking forward to seeing You on a sunny beach!
